Wildfires Spark Improved Forest Management in Cibola National Forest

The Cibola National Forest covers 1.5 million acres. It was affected by the Trigo wildfire in 2008. There were two more wildfires in 2011 which sparked a debate over the management of the National Forest. The result was a new management plan aimed at minimizing and preventing future wildfires in the area. The restoration project will help reduce potential wildfire threats, improve the water quality of the watersheds in and around the Cibola National Forest, and improve wildlife habitats as well as promote forest growth and increase the overall health of the forest. The effort includes thinning, logging, and increasing trails.
