A Strategic Plan for NC State Forests

The NC State Forest Service Strategic Plan outlines the six major goals the forest service intends to prioritize over the next three years. These six major goals–protect the forests, manage the forests, promote the forests, leadership in forestry, safety, and business efficiency and economics–encompass fifteen different objectives and ninety action items outlined by the forest service for attention over the next three years. The longterm vision of the plan includes the state’s aspiration to become leaders in emergency response, resource management, forest protection, and environmental education.

All logging in North Carolina is monitored by the North Carolina Forest Service, both on private and public lands. Through their tenet of “Manage the Forests” in their strategic plan, the Forest Service essentially offers consulting services to private land owners looking to manage their forested land. The website says the Forest Service will offer “objective-driven management plans” to promote “sound management” of forests.
